For those of you who have suffered with low back pain for any period of time the above statement may make you pause. Low back pain is one of the most common orthopedic complaints in the US and we as a health care system spend millions of dollars each year treating it, sometimes not very successfully. One of the reasons for this lack of success is the plethora of false and misleading information regarding low back pain and the treatment of it.
There are thousands of exercises out there all which can have some benefit for the right person. Personally I am partial to strength training with free weights and kettlebells as my preferred form of exercise both for myself and my patients. I also understand it is not the end all be all. Not to mention, not everyone has access to the equipment needed nor can everyone tolerate a intense strength training program.
